  10. FREEPIANO instructions
  11.  
  12. - FreePiano limitation: This is a full working version of SampleTank able to
  13. play only the included sound. The piano included is the smallest concert
  14. grand-piano sound you'll find in the full version of SampleTank.
  15.  
  16. -System Requirements Macintosh(r): Minimal: PPC604 200MHz with MacOS 8.5 or
  17. later system software, 64 MB RAM. Screen settings: 640x480, thousands of colors,
  18. 240 MB of free hard disk space. Suggested: Power Macintosh(r) G3/G4 with 128MB
  19. RAM, 2GB of free hard disk space. ASIO card is recommended for low latency
  20. realtime play.

  22. Windows(r): Minimal: Intel(r) Pentium(r) 200 MHz MMX(tm) with Windows(r) 95,
  23. Windows(r) 98, Winsows(r) ME, Windows(r) NT(tm) 4.0, Windows(r) 2000, 64 MB RAM
  24. and high-quality sound card. Screen settings: 800x600, high colors (16 bit), 240
  25. MB of free hard disk space. Suggested: Intel(r) Pentium(r) III 500 MHz with
  26. 128MB RAM, 2GB of free hard disk space. ASIO card is recommended for low latency
  27. realtime play.  Optimized for Pentium(r) III.

  29. MIDI sequencer: To use Sampletank you need Cubase(tm), Logic(tm) Audio(tm) or
  30. any other Macintosh(r) or Windows(r) sequencer compatible with VST(tm)
  31. instruments (Cubase(tm)  PC version  3.7.2 or Mac version 4.1.1, or later,
  32. Logic(tm) Audio PC and Mac version 4.5, or later).

  34. -Installation. The installer tries to locate your VstPlugIns default folder in
  35. your system and asks you to confirm the location where to install Sampletank.
  36. You could choose to install it into the default folder for VST instruments in
  37. Cubase(tm) or, if you wish, you could specify a different location. Remember
  38. that as a plugin, Sampletank has to be installed in a VstPlugIns folder or it
  39. wouldn't work. In the destination folder will be created a new folder called IK
  40. Multimedia, into this folder you will find the Sampletank plugin itself and the
  41. Sampletank Instruments folder containing the included "Acoustic Grand Piano".
  42. The installation will then be complete.

  44. - Opening Sampletank in Cubase(tm) Launch Cubase(tm). Open the 'Panels' menu and
  45. select 'VST Instruments'. This will display the VST Instruments interface. Click
  46. on the 'No VST Instrument' text. A pop-up menu will show all available
  47. instruments. Move the selection over 'IK Multimedia' and click on the sub-menu
  48. 'Sampletank'. Switch the instrument on by clicking on the dull red button. The
  49. button will light up. Now click on the 'Edit' button. Sampletank will be
  50. launched.
  51.  
  52. - Opening Sampletank in Logic(tm) Audio Launch Logic(tm) Audio. If you already
  53. utilize 'AudioInst' channels in Logic(tm), just load Sampletank as one of those
  54. instruments. Otherwise create a new audio object in the Logic(tm) Audio
  55. envinronment. Set the output channel as Instrument 1. On this channel (in the
  56. mixer window) load Sampletank as a plug-in in the first 'insert' slot.
  57. Double-click on the plug-in slot (blue) and Sampletank will be launched.
  58.  
  59. - Authorization (8 steps).
  60.  
  61. 1) Write down carefully  (or copy) your Digital ID. This must be the Digital ID
  62. of the system where you are planning to install and use Sampletank. Digital ID
  63. and Authorization Code have no letters \'I\' and \'O\'. Those you might see are
  64. actually numbers: one and zero, respectively.
  65.  
  66. 2) Launch your browser and connect to the Sampletank registration page:
  67. http://www.sampletank.com/STFreePianoReg.html (your browser will need to support
  68. frames and Javascript; all recent versions of Netscape Navigator and Internet
  69. Explorer will suffice). You will access the Sampletank registration form.
  70.  
  71. 3) Fill in all required fields, including your Serial Number and Digital ID. All
  72. codes should be entered in capital letters. Remember to include a working e-mail
  73. address: it will be used to send your Authorization Code. Press \'Submit\'.
  74.  
  75. 4) Open your e-mail client software and check for new mail in the address you've
  76. just inserted in the registration form. You will shortly receive a message
  77. confirming your registration and giving you an Authorization Code.
  78.  
  79. 5) If you had closed your applications, launch Sampletank again. Otherwise, just
  80. return to the authorization window.
  81.  
  82. 6) Type carefully your Authorization Code in the \'Authorization Code\' field in
  83. the authorization window.
  84.  
  85. 7) Press 'OK'. If all information has been entered correctly, Sampletank will
  86. now be authorized. Remember to write down your Authorization Code.
  87.  
  88. 8) If you need a new authorization simply repeat the procedure. If you use a
  89. different computer for music and for the internet, just note down the Digital
  90. ID, move on to your internet computer and use it to visit the registration page,
  91. fill in the registration form (with the Digital ID copied from the other
  92. system), and get the e-mail confirming your registration. Then note down the
  93. Authorization Code, get back to your music computer and complete the procedure.

  95. - Loading and playing instruments. Before loading an instrument, select the MIDI
  96. channel where you want to place it. You have all 16 channels at your disposal
  97. (for each of the VST(tm) instruments opened). You select a MIDI channel by
  98. clicking on the 1-16 MIDI buttons on the SampleTank interface. Once you have a
  99. channel ready, double-click on an instrument name to load it in the channel. To
  100. the same effect you can select an instrument and press the 'Load' button. Notice
  101. that the led right under the channel button, called the 'Status' led, will turn
  102. yellow while the instrument is loading, and will stay green when it's ready to
  103. be played.

  105. The instrument name, as well as a generic description of the available
  106. instrument knobs, will appear in the left side of the interface. One or more
  107. pre-defined effects will be loaded and displayed in the effects interface on the
  108. right. More information on each single instrument is available by pressing the
  109. 'Info' button.

  111. You can now play the instrument using a master keyboard connected to the
  112. sequencer or using a MIDI sequence in the track. MIDI activity in the channels
  113. is indicated by the red led, called the 'MIDI' led, above each of the channel
  114. buttons.

  116. To load another instrument in the same channel, just double-click  (or  select
  117. and load) a new instrument  in the list. To change to a different channel, press
  118. its MIDI button. To empty a channel, press the 'Empty' button. The Status and
  119. MIDI leds will immediately blank out.
